Dangerous goods contain substances that can harm people, animals or the environment in various ways. This is why the transport of such goods is governed by international (ADR) and national (SDR) regulations.
Drivers of vehicles carrying dangerous goods need special training. Drivers can obtain the basic ADR licence by absolving a core course and then complete other modules that depend on the type of hazardous goods (transport in tanks, explosive and radioactive substances). The ADR licence is valid for five years. In order to retain the ADR licence, a refresher course has to be taken during the year before the licence expires.
