Giving the Gift of Happiness

Kim’s greatest dream was to ride in a lorry, a dream that was generously fulfilled by the Swiss lorry-driver community.

On Monday the 15th of February 2021, over 30 lorries gathered in Lohn-Ammannsegg (SO) in response to Kim’s mother’s appeal on Radio 32: «Teddy Bear 1-4 to all lorry-drivers». She wanted to give her son an unforgettable 18th birthday despite his disability and the current coronavirus-related restrictions.

Her son had always dreamed of being able to ride in a lorry. Just like in the famous Jonny Hill song «Ruf Teddybär 1-4», dozens of lorry-drivers met in the car park of the local restaurant «Blitz-Chuchi». Everyone that heard the appeal tried to stop by if they had the time. We were also incredibly happy to be there taking part with our lorry.

It was a heart-warming afternoon that Kim will definitely remember. Along with the lovely memories and photos of him in front of the lorries, many of the drivers also gave Kim nameplates as a gift.

The heroes of the street were given a warm meal and a drink in Kim’s parents' restaurant as a thank you for their kindness and support.

«We didn’t know what to expect, whether we would be the only ones there or whether there would be 100 lorries here. Even if Kim can’t ride with us it’s not a problem. The most important thing is for us to be here and give the young man the opportunity to ride in a lorry.» – Lorry driver to Radio 32
