Tour de Suisse and CT – a «Winning Team»

«Never change a winning team». This old saying is absolutely justified in relation to the Tour de Suisse (TdS) and CAMION TRANSPORT (CT). We are now in our sixteenth year as the official logistics partner supporting the TdS. Franz Meienhofer, Head of Sales/Customer Service gives us an insight into the long-standing partnership.

Franz, the next TdS starts next Sunday. You have been the contact person since the start as far as this commitment is concerned. How did this logistics sponsorship come about in 2006?
In the summer of 2005, we received an enquiry from Armin Meier, former professional cyclist and then CEO of IMG (Suisse) AG, regarding a possible collaboration. At that time, IMG organized the TdS, as well as other major sporting events.

In June 2006 we made our vehicles available for the first time and agreed on a partnership contract for three years at any one time as a result of the good experience we had working together.

What does our sponsorship include and what is our remit?
CAMION TRANSPORT AG provides 10–13 vehicles for transport during the TdS.

Have our services, and perhaps the effort required to secure them, changed over the years?
Some of our contacts have changed during the sixteen years. The TdS has been organised by Cycling Unlimited AG for three years now. There are many new and good ideas to make the TdS even more attractive.
However, for CT the principles are still the same. We provide the necessary vehicles during the TdS.

When you look back: Was there an absolute highlight for you in these fifteen years in relation to the TdS?
The TdS 2015 was special for us. On 17 June 2015 the finish was in Sölden and on 18 June 2015 in Biel. The organisers were looking for a starting location in eastern Switzerland for noon on Thursday, 18 June 2015. We offered those responsible our premises at the head office in Wil for the start. This was then implemented: With an organising committee of eight members, we then organised the TdS start and additionally a bike day for 500 primary school students from Wil. It was a fantastic success.

Another highlight was the TdS stage on Saturday, 17 June 2017 in Schaffhausen. The finish line was at the football stadium right next to our branch. The local circuit was ridden eight times and passed directly by our logistics centre. We seized the opportunity and organized a customer event with the responsibles of our Schaffhausen branch.

Thank you for the glimpse behind the scenes!
