Winter Youth Olympic Games 2020

High level logistics partnership

The Winter Youth Olympic Games took place in Switzerland from 9 to 22 January 2020. The talented youngsters showed their skills in a total of 8 sports, 16 disciplines and 81 medal events. The competition sites were in and around Lausanne, with the exception of St.Moritz. The two Olympic villages (shared accommodation of the Olympic competitors) in St.Moritz and the newly built student accommodation «Vortex» in Chavannes-près-Renens provided accommodation for more than 1800 athletes.

For the first time in the history of the Olympic Games there was a formulated transport strategy. The aim was for the competitors to travel to the venues using public transport. The strategy worked: Around 80% of all competitors travelled on public transport. Alongside the people, the equipment also had to be on location on time. A reliable logistics partner was a must for such an important event.

DB Schenker, official logistics partner of the Winter Youth Olympic Games 2020, worked closely with CAMION TRANSPORT. Above all, ecological thinking and good positioning in Western Switzerland were relevant to the partnership. Together, we mastered various transport tasks during the sporting event. On average, there were ten trucks per day loaded with baggage, sporting equipment, infrastructure, food and much more.

However, the job is not finished yet. There are still a few things to do, even after the closing ceremony. At the Léman branch, the athlete’s baggage and other equipment is still being sorted according to the destination country and prepared for shipping. DB Schenker once again relied on CAMION TRANSPORT, as a reliable partner to carry out the material transport to Geneva airport.
