In short, the FUSO eCanter is easily manoeuvrable, clean and quiet.
Easily manoeuvrable – and quick in the city
The wheelbase of 3,4 m makes the eCanter extremely agile. Ideal for delivering small consignments in the city centre. Moreover, an electric vehicle offers a different ride to a diesel. Acceleration, for example, is significantly better. The operating range of 100 km is sufficient for transport within a city and metropolitan area. I plug the lorry in to charge in between outings.
Clean – inside and out
I was very excited when I was asked if I wanted to drive the new electric Camion vehicle and agreed straight away. I think it is important to test alternative drivetrains and to be open to new things. So, this was something of a perfect match. People notice the eCanter in the city and I’ve already had a few interesting conversations with clients and passers-by about it. I even get the odd jealous glance from my colleagues ;-).
Quiet – but not inaudible
Electric vehicles are very quiet. As I drive in the busy city centre, it’s important that the lorry can be heard. To avoid frightening passers-by and children by honking the horn, I have taken inspiration from bike couriers – by ringing a bike bell attached to my rear-view mirror, I can make myself noticed in a way that is gentle but loud enough to be heard.
I’m looking forward to the FUSO eCanter going into mass production and hope that the data I’m supplying to the manufacturer with my day-to-day testing will be valuable. This data will influence further developments before the vehicle goes into mass production in the next few years.
