Looking to the near future, we can see that our innovation fleet is growing and so is the electricity requirement of our vehicles. Fortunately, with our large roofs, we are able to produce a large amount of electrical energy cleanly and silently on site.
About the figures in Rümlang
Around 4’424m2 of photovoltaic modules are located on the east and west sides, which are enclosed with railings around the solar cells. In addition, there is the so-called bifacial area, on which approximately 1’021m2 vertical PV panels are installed at the sides. These modules have the advantage that in winter they are free and produce electricity.
We can compare the energy production with the consumption of one of our eActros vehicles. In the future, approximately 1’000 megawatt hours (1’000’000kWh) of electricity will be produced annually in Rümlang. The battery capacity of the large eActros-300 is 315kWh.
With the power from the PV system, this vehicle could be recharged about 3’174 times from completely flat to completely charged. Or, in terms of distance travelled, the power is enough for 1’250’000 kilometres at an average consumption of 80kWh per 100km. This means that, during a year, up to 20 lorries can be operated daily, as their batteries are not completely exhausted and then fully charged again.
What comes next...
In the next three years, five more branches are to be equipped with a photovoltaic system, two of them in relation to extension and new construction projects, which include solar energy as a matter of course. A future milestone: By 2035, we want the operation of our own properties and business premises to be climate-neutral.
Our environment, our responsibility, our contribution.
